Juan Manuel Marquez says he's done fighting Manny Pacquiao

By Lance Pugmire

May 3, 2013, 6:20 p.m.

LAS VEGAS -- Juan Manuel Marquez said Friday he's finished fighting Manny Pacquiao and wants to forever hang on to the feeling of his thunderous Dec. 8 knockout of the Filipino superstar.

Marquez, in a video interview with The Times, said he was content to accept a Sept. 14 bout with World Boxing Organization titleholder Timothy Bradley of Palm Springs because Bradley "is the champ."

Marquez, in Las Vegas for ESPN Deportes to cover the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Robert Guerrero fight Saturday night at MGM Grand Garden Arena, said he also was not interested in traveling to Singapore or China to fight Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is expected to fight either Mike Alvarado or Brandon Rios in the fall in the Far East.

Marquez said he believes he won the three prior fights with Pacquiao before the knockout, even though judges awarded Pacquiao two decisions and a draw in those fights.

He said that after those frustrations hung with him for years in some cases, he wants the rivalry to end for good with his Dec. 8 moment as the lasting image.

Looks like Marquez has really decided to end his rivalry with Manny Pacquiao with his highlight reel brutal knockout. :D

There is no other way to end a rivalry than a thunderous right hand and the other falling sound asleep. That is an earth-shattering career moment for a fighter. Why would anyone fight the same guy again.

2 things: he is scared Manny will knock him out next time around and/or just pricing himself up.

the official tally - the one that will go on the record books - is 2-1-1 in favor of Pacquiao. while history will say that Pacquiao got knocked out in their last fight, there would always be the accompanying note that it took 4 tries for marquez to get a win over Pacquiao. and for all intents on purposes, while it was a close rivalry between the two, the official tally states that Pacquiao is the superior fighter between the two.

That is why Marquez will come in dramatic entrance bragging about his win over Manny enticing Manny to challenge him again that's your plan isn't Marquez?

I admire jmm for not being reined in by arum's money. Unlike a certain someone who would rather fight the same guy four times instead of giving the others a chance to possibly beat him thus giving us fight fans a thrilling fight. Anyway, we'll see if jmm can abide by his words.

Marquez got the last laugh... a precision timed punch to the face. A huge KO which was later named the KO of the year! How punctuating could that be?

yall are delusional if you think manny will be the same fighter after that KO. it would be ok if he were younger. but not at the twilight of his career. I am and always will be a Manny supporter, and I will always remember the glory years. but like many greats before him - he gambled one too many.
my forecast. mediocre performance in his next fight (a decision win or loss) and maybe he will fight at home in the philippines one more time to call it a day. Unless he drops his next opponent in devastating fashion - then the story might be different.

Of course they will fight again. JMM is not like Floyd. JMM loves fighting Manny.
