In October 1961, Villa was added by Ring Magazine to its own boxing hall of fame. He was inducted belatedly into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1994, the second Filipino boxer so honored after Gabriel "Flash" Elorde, who was born seven years after Villa's death.

Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward first fight was just the third bout between two undefeated fighters rated in The Ring's pound-for-pound top 5 since the magazine began its pound-for-pound rankings in 1989. The previous two were 1990's Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Meldrick Taylor bout and 1999's matchup between Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad.

In 1971, basketball star Wilt Chamberlainchallenged Ali to a fight, and a bout was scheduled for July 26. Although the seven foot two inch tall Chamberlain had formidable physical advantages over Ali—weighing 60 pounds more and able to reach 14 inches further—Ali was able to intimidate Chamberlain into calling off the bout by taunting him with calls of "Timber!" and "The tree will fall" during a shared interview. These statements of confidence unsettled his taller opponent to the point that he called off the bout.

Schoolteacher Jeff Horn wants to educate Queensland kids on the sport that has made him a leading contender for Manny Pacquiao’s WBO world welterweight title. He is backing a program designed by his Korean-born cornerman Dundee Kim to teach Queensland kids the co-ordination and balance needed for boxing, without getting hit.

During their first encounter, in the final round, Frazier knocked Ali down with a vicious left hook, which referee Arthur Mercante said was as hard as a man can be hit. Ali was back on his feet in three seconds. Nevertheless, Ali lost by unanimous decision, his first professional defeat.

In his career Joe Frazier lost to only two fighters, both former Olympic and world heavyweight champions: twice to Muhammad Ali, and twice to George Foreman.

Frazier's style was often compared to that ofHenry Armstrong and occasionally Rocky Marciano, dependent on bobbing, weaving and relentless pressure to wear down his opponents. His best known punch was a powerful left hook, which accounted for most of his knockouts.

In 1982, annoyed that network announcers often did not refer to him by his nickname, "Marvelous", Hagler legally changed his name to Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

He reigned as the undisputed middleweight champion from 1980 to 1987, making twelve defenses of that title, and currently holds the highestknockout percentage of all undisputed middleweight champions, at 78%.
