Very interesting fight. Linares going up against our own Mercito Gesta, trained by Roach, who was Linares' former trainer too.

Mercito lacks speed and footwork, but as one commentator said, there are flashes in his work that can surprise an opponent. Against Linares, he better be on his toes and be active, not just wait to counterpunch like he did against Vazquez, wait until end of the fight, sure loss.

Oo, but like ALA fighters, Golden Boy has been feeding Gesta tricycle drivers, and I don't see any improvments in Gesta's technique since Roach started working with him.

Gesta will surely be a huge underdog, but if he wins, he suddenly will be included in this list :

I don't know how Gesta got to challengs the WBA champ (and Ring magazine) Linares, he is not even in WBA's rankings. I hope he pulls an upset.

" After all, De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions has been in the business of feeding their fighters (not named Canelo Alvarez) to bigger names as quality B-sides for quite a while now. Actually, aside from the Canelo business, their production of B-side opponents has been the most profitable part of their operation. A-side fighters such as Floyd Mayweather, Gennady Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev, and, of course, Miguel Cotto have all benefitted from Golden Boy’s ability to wrangle up a salable (and beatable) opponent for a moderate financial score." -

Let's hope Gesta proves them wrong ... big hill to climb ...
