World champion Condes almost quit boxing

International Boxing Federation minimum weight champion Florante Condes admitted on Friday
that the controversy hounding his career is too big to handle that almost made him quit boxing.

It’s too much that I had almost decided to quit.

I said to myself, it’s enough,” said Condes during Friday’s SCOOP session at the Kamayan restaurant
along Padre Faura in Ermita.

Condes parted ways with former manager Aljoe Jaro whom he accused of not giving what is due
him, including enough share in the prize money for dethroning Indonesia champion Muhammad
Rachman in July last year.

“Since the issue broke out, I started to receive a lot of text messages, some of them were too
personal that almost forced me to quit boxing,” Condes confessed.

Condes, however, obliged to the advice of his family and friends not to give up and defend the title
against his mandatory challenger Raul Garcia of Mexico.

He will be defending his title for the first time against the undefeated Garcia (22-0-1, 15 knockouts)
on June 14 in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani is temporarily helping Condes while his case with Jaro is being
settled by the Games and Amusement Board. Condes is still under the care of his Puerto Rican
manager Dante Ortiz.

Condes (22-3-1, 20 knockouts), who tapped the services of former ALA Boxing Gym trainer Danny
Bactol, got morale support from WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Peñalosa who also graced the
weekly sports forum sponsored by Accel.

“Florante is a good fighter and strong but he still has to train hard if he wants to win the fight. I
know the hometown crowd will not intimidate him. He has to focus on his fight and put behind all
his problems,” said Peñalosa.

Penalosa is coming off from a successful title defense against Ratanachai Sor Vorapin of Thailand
on April 6 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Can't blame the guy after winning a title and be in limbo. Anyway the guy's mentality is tough as shown by his decision to ride out the managerial maelstrom and continue what he does best - being a fighter.

he should change his handlers, he is a promising champ with a very high KO rate. manny suffered almost the same in the hands of murad. he should not give up. filipino people are on his side.

Florante should train hard now that managerial problems are past, he should be clever in dealing with people next time, especially in giving his signature!!

Why not join permanently with ALA?

I personally believe that Condes' title defense should not happen in mexico...

because if Condes wont be able to KO his opponent, his chances of winning via decision is very slim...

Nonetheless...I pray that Florante Condes will pull a victory in this one...!!!

I think its the right decision for condes to quit while he is still champion because aside from the two KD rounds he did not do anything against an old warhorse(Muhammad) he was beaten up the following rounds much like MP vs JMM

Aljoe driver?

Condes should continue bringing honor to the country by winning in his title defense. He's a solid fighter/boxer.

Condes should focus on his title defense. Let his lawyers and GAB take care of his managerial problems.

Yea, it was a close fight. Even great fighters had close fights. Are you saying that if a boxer barely won a fight, he should QUIT?
Siguro ayawin ka hano? Konting aray lang, uwi ka agad ng bahay...LOL!

trans:

Do you have plans of giving Condes a lucrative job?

He should not think of quitting! there are solutions to every problems, if he quits, what does he do for a living? boxing is already his life.

Best thing to do is to train hard with the right persons, not to the leech like Aljo Jaro and Morris East.
