You only need to look at Pacquiao and Nonito.

Pacquiao - Abandoned by his father as a child. He grew up and became successful and bought the same father a house. Flew him to Las Vegas to see him fight.

Nonito - His father and mother took care of him, and his father guided him to his first championship belt. When he became
successful, he abandoned his parents.

Hahaha, like it!Ü

It's been common for the Americans to send their parents to Home for the Aged once they are old. tsk3, poor parents... after all they did to their children that's what they can receive afterwards.

sorry pero IMO, this is such a lame topic..

Similarities - exposure to Pinoy customs and traditions (FilAms got 1 pinoy parent, right?)
Differences - culture

I guess it's true that common sense aint that common nowadays.

If your'e a Fil-Am you are very much appreciated by Pinoy's but if you are a pure Pinoy, Fil-Am don't care that much.

if nonito abandoned his parents which i highly doubt, its not because he didnt grow up in PI thats why hes capable of doing this. im sure alot of people who grew up in PI is capable of doing such things and maybe worse. point is, lets not generalize. i think his parents dont approve of his wife and probably wants him to get rid of her but he is just standing his ground. just because he doesnt listen to his parents wishes doesnt mean hes disrespecting. peace.

Plus if your in nonito's foot and there a conflict between you parents and you wife, who's you'll gonna side? Remember that in legality even in bible husband/wife is the first priority than parents. I'm not saying that nonito want this but imo nonito made a hard decision. Peace.

somehow there is truth in that filams are a little privilege, when you apply for a job in the Philippines and you are the hiring manager who would you consider? a filam educated in the united states or a pinoy educated in a local school.......better yet lets not go far in the PBA how many fil-ams are playing versus the local breed......do they get the same treatment, the same playing time? see this is a fact. I live in the states and I grew up in PI.....I have a very humble upbringing, when I see these filams (not in general) looking like theyre some kind of black gangster makes me want to look back and appreciate the hard times that I have been thru.....my kids grew up here and am having a hard time trying to illustrate to them how hard it is back home.....they know we still send money back home every month but fail to recognize that fact the whenever a member of a family is in the states its seems that the responsibility extend to the members of the the family back home.....I wish this is as simple as one of the posters here implied....."we are all pinoys therefore we are the same"......I think its a little bit complicated than that.....

"Pinoys in the US has sacrificed identity just for opportunity." -a line from a fil-am rap..
I don't remember the title of the song/rap though.

How many Filams before were proud before to say
that they were filipinos?
If you were of both parents Filipinos and born in the Philippines, and just migrated to America, they prefered to be called Filams...or better Americans...no nationalism at all

now Pacquiao comes and become great,,they are Filipinos again,FilAms the least....they are suddenly nationalists..pacquiao changed their life, their world... :D

im working 10 times harder now than when I was in Pinas. not saying thats the case for everybody, but at the end of the day, any pinoy who is proud to be pinoy, regardless where you're from. to me is a TRUE PINOY. ppl who love to criticiz are just hypocrites and judgmental. theres ppl like that in all races. let the innocent cast the first stone. clean ur own backyard first. all of the cliches.. fil-ams - ones you'd see wearing a coat and some snow boots during a hot summer day

pinoys- relaxed ones having a blast in opus or loving it in camsur

Really? Have you ever asked them why and understand what they have to say? Most Pinoys are poor and if your parents are helping those who were left back home, chances are they are also poor. If their families are poor, how on earth your parents managed to be engineer and nurse and even be able to migrate to America? Surely, they were not been born adults and already educated? Chances are, those people that your parents are helping (maybe to your chagrin) were the ones who made your parent's dreams come true. There are too many similar stories here in Pinas wherein family members would sell their last possessions so that a son, brother or sister can be educated and find a better future... some readily forget their own story and I'm glad your parents are not one of them.
