Pinas; hard life humble people appreciate what they have and value hard work.

US - Working 2 to 3 jobs so that they can support spoiled brats back home

PINAS - Waiting for the Balikbayan box so they can pretend to have jobs and watch Hollywood movies all day! lol

i think there's no such way of working 2 to 3 jobs a day here in PI. all work here gov't or private requires 8 hrs of work a day

That's the point... I know of many Canadian or American born Filipinos that work a 9-5 and still put in an additional 4-5 hours at another job a couple days a week. While it's true that we make more money on average than our "pure pinoy" counterparts, it seems that many of you overlook how high our cost of living is here. After paying our mortages/rent, bills, groceries etc... Most people are just breaking even and they're busting their a$$ to maintain what little luxuries they can afford... Like Internet and cable. Just because we didn't grow up in the Philippines doesn't mean that we don't struggle... In fact, I would say that there's even more pressure on us to succeed because that's what we are expected to do because if I didn't have a job there's no way i could survive all day watching the horse races and drinking Ginebra & Red Horse. Our weather is much less forgiving to the homeless.

FilAms and Pinoys why similar in color yet so different?

Pinoy kids born in America. They got pinoy blood alright but education system brought them up to think and to act like Americans. They can eat our food sometimes but they smell it first with distrust before they put it in their mouth, speak broken tagalog, consider some of the pinoy culture are weird.

Pinoy kids who moved to America as juveniles, these kids are uprooted, they have to start again, small percentage of them ended up being teased, bullied in school, small percentage join asia gangs and they grow up confused. You know, no good in the head. Blame parents when their road is not leading them to Rome.

Pinoy kids who grew up in the Phils and Educated in the Phils up until college. They will never forget who they are. They can adapt when they to go live in America, work hard and become successful, own million dollar house, expensive cars, picnic with friends on weekends, they still eat Tuyo, Bagong and Kamatis. They will never become Americans but they will understand the American ways.

Pinoys in the Phils are 100% Pinoy and you know who you are! (cheers!)

Pinoy men are more likely to be womanisers and cheaters.same with women these days.also goes for OFWs..Pinoys will spend alot for birthdays and such just to look good to other neighbors even if they don't have money.they try real hard to be american,,or rather have that american lifestyle.Pinoys are as corrupt as the govnt..its why you dont see any changes..one corrupt goes another one comes in.

Filams-they have more respect to women as in not be womanisers and cheaters..just because there are no prostitutes and bar-hos in every town.i dont know what else about them,,i dont know any of them..

you can't really have one that is better than the other,,both have negatives or positives..and there are differences between poor pinoys and the rich ones.

If I remember it right, there was a movement during the pre-martial law years, called Philippine Statehood U.S.A. that was fast gaining steam but rudely snuffed by Mc Coy's declaration of Martial Law. It was the brainchild of then Senator Raul Manglapuz.

"They can adapt when they to go live in America, work hard and become successful, own million dollar house, expensive cars" wow, i can tell you've never been in america..
yes it's true, some filipinos i know work 2 to 3 jobs just to send money at home. that means working 16 hours days + part time weekend work! that's 3 jobs! damn im glad i don't have to send anyone money myself. btw, i do speak 99.9% filipino, eat filipino food like kalamansi and bagoong but i also knows how to adjust like no filipino food for years, like no rice for 5 years!
don't know too much about donaire situation, but for me he's not even close to truly adapted american ways of life. he is still fresh off the boat immigrant so i believe he still hold all those true filipino values. his parents should have been more forgiving though to the son for whatever damage they might have done, not disowning them. i heard donaire saying on tv, he loves his dad and hopes one day find a peace and common ground with the family, but all i hear from dad side is more hate and that how evil and disloyal the new couples are. seriously?? we don't give a shiiat! we just want good boxing and im so sick and tired hearing donaires private life! no one cares! lol :biglaugh:

i grew up and witnessed 5 philippine presidents, from marcos to gloria arroyo and sadly no one came close to uplifting the life conditions of the filipinos, with Pnoy i am not sure..I am losing hope...

some people are so melodramatic geezzzzz!, stupid people are everywhere pure pinoy or filams stupid people do exist regardless of culture or religion. I just saw in the news (TV patrol) a daughter who put her old mother in a cage and hurt her by beating her up! and yes they are pure Filipinos living in PH.

so you see stupid people like the pactards are everywhere and sad to say there's nothing we can do about it...

imo, it's not about pinoys living in the phils or raised in america, but it's about our mixed culture
brought by many nations who colonized the philippines for so long...
e.g..spaniards were here for 333 years, then americans, japanese, and now big business here are owned
by less than ten (rich chinese) families..not to mention koreans and russians who are flooding boracay island like a storm..hehehe

unfortunately, the highlighted above is not true!!! the only 100% pinoys i see are the seniors. sad to say, but a huge percentage of younger generations in the philippines has already lost their filipino identity. if for example i go to a mall or a park when i visit the phillipines, i see these young filipinos but because of their clothing, the way they sometimes speak or act, i feel that im here in the US. my children were born here in the US, but in a lot of ways, they are more filipino than these people and even their cousins in the philippines. When asked here in the US of our ethnicity, even before pacquiao was a boxer, we always say FILIPINO and not FilAm.

So to answer the question of the TS.....

FilAms: trying very hard to preserve their filipino heritage while growing up in a place with a completely different culture

Pinoys: trying very hard to grasp other country's culture in the expense of their own heritage :(
