This Donaire/Mathebula fight is very much similar to Barerra/Zonke Fana fight in the sense both Fana and Mathebula both come from South Africa and both have bloated record. When Fana fought Barerra a few years back, he never fought outside of South Africa before. Same thing here with Mathebula. This is the first time he will be fighting outside of South Africa. Fana got thrown into the lion's den and had no chance at all against Barerra.
If you look at the record of Donaire and compare it with Mathebula's record one would say this could be a good fight. But in reality Mathebula pose no threat at all against Donaire. Donaire will have no problem dealing with Mathebula's height for Mathebula's punches packs no power.
Donaire will not go for an early KO here and let the fight go the distance to make it look like he had trouble solving the height advantage of Mathebula and to avoid getting ridiculed for cherrypicking opponent who has zero chance of beating him.
this sounds like mathebula is a weakling. if it were so, how did he become an IBF
champion in his division? surely he must have some story to tell about how he got on top!
Mathebula is not exactly a WEAKLING because just like what you have said he is also a champion. However, skills-wise he doesn't have a chance against Donaire.
His only advantage is height. But as soon as Donaire got inside his defensive perimeter, he will have nowhere to go, but go down the canvas.
