I always thought winning multiple divisions in boxing is overrated considering the fact there's too many boxing groups and the weight differences between classes, especially in the lighter weights are small - 112, 115, 118 - thats 3 freaking lbs.

Who did Manny beat in 154 to get a title? Margarito who came off a suspension from cheating and turned out to be a fraud.

Nonito is doing the right thing by taking on the best. Mathebula can fight and he'll be back to have a good career.

I just dont like it when fans make a big deal about jumping weight classes in boxing w/ just a 4lbs difference - 122 to 126 to 130.

A great fighter takes some risk and knows what boxing is all about. Today, knockouts and ring dominance with flurries of punches are the interest of the viewers. To be great, one must show true grit and great ending, not to wait for the final bell preserving your points.

stop trolling.
donaire took the biggest risk in fighting a taller unknown champion from south africa who had a very awkward style.

I am beginning to think this is your reserve handle LUSOB

When Nonito KO'd Vic at 112 Vic was 28 - 0 with 22 KOs. That KO percentage is crazy. Since then Vic is 6-0-1 at 115 with 5 KOs. At 118 he's 3-4 with 0 KOs. 3 pounds didn't matter? Really?

Because Cotto beat him? AND Manny put a much worse beating on him than Cotto. You think Manny couldn't beat K9? We already know he could beat Cotto. MAYBE Canelo is a good fight, but it's definately a fight Manny could win. Same with the Trout fight.

Agreed, nobody likes it when fighters duck competition like Floyd did.

If it's that easy then why haven't more fighters done it? There's been 4 big organizations since 1989 and the weight classes haven't undergone any major changes since the 60s.

I may be wrong, but I didn't know swinging for the fences and head hunting was being cautious.

Guys, I wanted to be a fan of Donaire but at this point, he did not impressed me because if he did I would write something positive about him but his last two fights disappointed me. Why is that? It means that he needs to do more. It was not enough to make me watch him again in person if it happens at Madison Square Garden.
One thing for sure it makes sense to guess that whoever his opponent will be, they will be cautious of Donaire's left hand. This is the reason why the fights get boring. Nonio needs to be more aggressive. I was very frustrated in his fight with Mathebuka because I saw his opportunity to come in closer when he was weaving in left and right and Mathebula was missing his shots. Donaire would have stopped him if he continued that attacked.

@ rikkk5,

it is good to talk about boxing but do you know how to react when you are the one in the ring? have you ever been in a fisticuffs? if so, how did you fare? have you won any belt (be it sinturon ni hudas, white belt, leather belt or leatherette)?

talking is crap man, learn how to appreciate what is at hand. you might lose the opportunity to enjoy things while they are at hand.

Were you in the ring side when you watch Donaire's fight?
I've been watching boxing live but I have to be in the ring side in order for me to see clearly to enjoy or otherwise, I rather watch on my big screen. I watch Donaire's last fight on TV and I thought it was very exciting in every round and never been boring. How much more if I happen to watch LIVE BY THE RING SIDE. His unique style and aggressiveness make him an exciting boxer to watch. I am looking forward to his next fight.
Sorry to hear that you are disappointed because I guess you did not get of what you expected. You are expecting a KO. You are blaming Donaire for failing to execute because you think that you can do better than him and that is the reason why you are bored. Try to imagine, if Donaire will KO his opponents in every first round, I think that is more boring. You will not see their exchanges, the power punch and combinations, the cuts, the fouls. the complaints, the KD's, and the fighting spirits, etc.etc.
THAT IS BOXING AND THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF IT. The KNOCK OUT is just part of the fight and it will only happen if there is an opportunity.

He will be sensational if he takes more risks. He will be the same if he remains too cautious. What I am trying to say is, he can not be a sensation if he can not deliver. He can win, but will he become a crowd pleaser? At this time, he is in the early rounds but he needs to be resilient in the later rounds because they are the rounds that closest to the minds of the viewers. This is just my opinion and it is proven by what Donaire gets from the interest of the viewers. He can only be a $750k to 1 mk boxer or 75k ppv potential if he remains the same.

As much as I admire Donaire, I praised Vilorria with his power and courage. Vilorria proved he can fight toe to toe. In his last fight, I commented that he is not a complete fighter yet because he needs more combinations and follow ups to finish the opponents. This is all because of conditioning and if they think they have done enough, they have to do more because fights need to have strong finish until the later rounds. This is what made Pacquiao great because of the hard work he did to his body and mind.

Yes, it is easy for me to say all of these but we have to be honest that yes it will take sacrifice to become great. Do I admire Donaire of his boxing skill? Yes of course! But can we honestly say he was sensational? The numbers speaks for itself. He can continue to be what he can do but taking clues from the viewers, he must do more. I was ready to buy ppv on his last fight but happy to have it free on hbo. Would I watch him again in ppv? Yes I will and I will have my opinion afterwards until I am satisfied.

I believe however, if Donaire has stamina in the later rounds he can finish his opponents early unless he thinks that he has poor jaw. Manny showed class by betting on his chances in exchanges with even bigger opponents because I think he knows he can do better and more so he has the courage to be in that situation. This is the type of boxer the viewers wants to see. No fear! I don't buy an alibi of good tactician is a better defense. For me, it only shows you are afraid to get hit! This does not bode well in my expectations as great fighters.

At least he's a unified champ, a feat that Pac may never get. Besides, he did not fight dehydrated opponents. :biglaugh:
