That ranking was correct as per that date,
But now Pac is no.1
Elorde at 2nd
Pancho villa no.3
Ceferino Garcia no.4
Nonito Donaire no.5

Anthony Villanueva and Onyok Velasco should have been
given special citations as amateurs winning silver in the
Olympics but must not be included in the list of professional greats. 8)

Elorde is good only because of nostalgia ... the best Filipino boxing age is now, and will be remembered the most. Pacman did what Elorde cannot - win the lightweight championship for the first time ever by a Filipino (and Asian if I am not wrong).

This is an old news or rating but most of the fighters I think Manny is the lone boxer who is still active. I'm sure Manny is th number 1 now because of his 8th division championship.

Way back in 2007, Elorde could present a strong case as the greatest Filipino boxer.

Fast forward to 2010, I believe Pacquiao already earn that spot and he still fighting!

Ha-ha-ha! That select group of sportswriters must be old, over-the-hill writers who still remember the old greats! But there's no doubt in the world's eyes that Manny Pacquiao MUST BE the greatest Filipino fighter yet! The way Pacman handled himself both on and off the ring says a lot about him. Flash Elorde was much the same way, but what Pacman accomplished, Flash may never have done, even in his prime. Oh well....to err is human....

The great Pancho Villa stood only 5 feet 1 inch tall, and fought fighters that are at least 6 inches taller than him. He knocked out the pound-for-pound king of that era, Gene Wilde of Ireland(was it England or Wales); the fight that made him famous. If he had not died early in his career, he'd prove to be a real great! Unfortunately, I also read a lot of stories about him being a party animal and drank a lot of alcohol with his friends. He didn't handle himself well outside the ring, like Rolando Navarrete who went to prison in Hawaii.
