Well, I do not wish to be a spoiler, but Gesta is still largely untested in the rough waters. There is no need to rush, especially against the toughest lightweight around.

mercito is still improving but his skills right now is undeniably far more superior than his previous opponents.
improving is not good condition in fighting rios. experience is the best teacher in the sports of boxing, good fights against decent opponents cannot be taught in the gym nor by sparring alone. boxer learns more in actual fights not in the drawing board.

i've raised valid arguments in my posts before this, if you can answer those maybe i'll change my stand on this matter.

Gesta is different bro..the guy is improving everytime...his moves tells you that he is no bum...the guy has skills, speed and decent footwork that you dont see in other pinoy prospects...

you just said the magic word bro 'improving'...
improving against who?
fighting someone like Rios, gesta better not be improving, he must be improved already otherwise his change of winning is very slim.
Puncher's chance? have you not seen how Rios walk-in to the punches of the punchers of his division... and unfortunatey, Gesta is not a puncher to make a miracle punch nor a boxer to outpoint rios.
Donaire and Pac? they have one or two of those qualities.

if you dont believe mercito can out box rios then i dont know anymore...
mercito is still improving but his skills right now is undeniably far more superior than his previous opponents.

i agree, last year pa yang match up na yan and i was also one of the many boxing fans who thougth that it was too early for Gesta...but a year ago na....hope 1 to 2 more fights na lang before Gesta fight Rios...

right on the mark bro. Gesta is no doubt one of the bright pinoy prospects out there but we must also admit that he is still a work in progress. he needs good fights against class A fighter for experience and improvements.

Mga bro please have mercy on Gesta. He is not even rated in the top 10 of the alphabet boxing organizations! He may end up like some undefeated Pinoy boxers who were feed to the lions. Give him a good trainer like Freddie Roach and at least 3 more fights before he could aspire for a title. Why not match him with Jorge Linares?

i got your point bro but who were Gesta's opponens last year?
most of them have more than 10 or 20 losses in their records.

Gesta now just KO a guy who lost by KO/TKO twice in row. I think that's not a good measuring stick if we will fit him against a hardpuncher and with decent chin Rios.

where on the same page here.

...or Gesta vs a lesser beltholder in his division like demarco (wbc) or vazquez (ibf)

Some wanted Gesta to fight Rios next…

Then after the fight, they are scrambling and try beating each other in preparing a bum thread!

Sori mga bro rated no. 2 pala si Gesta sa WBO whose champion is Juan Manuel Marquez. But Marquez is scheduled to fight Pacquiao. A good opponent for Gesta is Michael Katsidis who is ranked no. 9 by the WBO.

i hope we considered that gesta has no amateur boxing experience... he might have a puncher's chance and better movement than rios but i doubt if bob arum will gamble on his filipino prospect. i believe he needed to start developing someone who can take over the filipino boxing community support once pacman retires. donaire's seems too stubborn to be relied on... just my 1 centimo.

I don't want Pacquaio be the 1st to punish Rios.. I believe Gesta can upset bam bam. Make it this November undercard to hype the 8-1 of Pacquiao and Marquez III. Gesta vs Rios! :bounce:
