Negros food makers tickling healthy eaters' taste budsby Marty Go, ABS-CBN Bacolod

Food makers in Negros Occidental have cooked up innovations to tickle the taste buds of the "health-conscious" market.
"A lot of people nowadays are conscious of their health. They [want] healthy food so I thought it would be better to offer them healthy, but sumptuous food," Agnes Cuenca, owner of Bacolod City's famous Quan restaurant.
Cuenca said innovating for health-conscious food lovers has also become the new trend in Negros Occidental’s food industry.
She said members of the Association of Negros Producers (ANP) have come up with “food innovations” especially for healthy eaters.
The ANP recently set up a food showroom in Bacolod to displayed new food products.
From the sweet delicacies like Napoleones, Dulce Gatas and Piaya, food makers have come up with crackers made of red rice and malunggay leaves.

The traditional Piaya was served like cones filled with vegetables.
Salad dressings made of blueberries and strawberries prepared by Cuenca were also sampled by food lovers.
There were also tiny oatmeal bars called “Quanolitas,” dried fruits and and healthy chocolate brownies.
"These new products of ANP will definitely be a treat to the Filipino's taste buds because Negrenses have the knack for good food, " ANP operations manager Kathleen Trebol said.
With the success of its exhibit in Negros Occidental, ANP has said that it is set to spread the word about health food and its innovations in other provinces and Metro Manila.
