Negros food makers tickling healthy eaters' taste buds
by Marty Go, ABS-CBN Bacolod

Food makers in Negros Occidental have cooked up innovations to tickle the taste buds of the "health-conscious" market.

"A lot of people nowadays are conscious of their health. They [want] healthy food so I thought it would be better to offer them healthy, but sumptuous food," Agnes Cuenca, owner of Bacolod City's famous Quan restaurant.

Cuenca said innovating for health-conscious food lovers has also become the new trend in Negros Occidental’s food industry.

She said members of the Association of Negros Producers (ANP) have come up with “food innovations” especially for healthy eaters.

The ANP recently set up a food showroom in Bacolod to displayed new food products.

From the sweet delicacies like Napoleones, Dulce Gatas and Piaya, food makers have come up with crackers made of red rice and malunggay leaves.

The traditional Piaya was served like cones filled with vegetables.

Salad dressings made of blueberries and strawberries prepared by Cuenca were also sampled by food lovers.

There were also tiny oatmeal bars called “Quanolitas,” dried fruits and and healthy chocolate brownies.

"These new products of ANP will definitely be a treat to the Filipino's taste buds because Negrenses have the knack for good food, " ANP operations manager Kathleen Trebol said.

With the success of its exhibit in Negros Occidental, ANP has said that it is set to spread the word about health food and its innovations in other provinces and Metro Manila.

Negros Slashers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Negros Slashers also known as the RCPI-Negros Slashers was a former professional basketball team in the Metropolitan Basketball Association from 1998 to 2002. The team enjoyed considerable success, winning the MBA National Championship in 2002, the last season of the said league. The team was based in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

Formation of the team
The team was named "Slashers" based on the cane knives' slashing motion used by itinerant sugar workers to cut sugarcane stalks. Sugar is the main product of Negros Occidental. Bacolod businessmen Oscar "Dodong" Bascon and Babes Alvarez painstakingly formed the team composed of amateur standouts mostly from the Visayas-Mindanao leagues and former professional players from Philippine Basketball Association. Ronnie "DJ" Dejarlo was the first player to sign a contract with the team. Among the players that formed the team were Maui Huelar, Erwin Framo, Johnedel Cardel, John Ferriols, Allen Sasan and Jack Tanuan. Negrense Rolly Buenaflor was named as head coach.

The Negros Slashers were grouped together with the Cebu Gems, Iloilo Volts, Davao Eagles, Socsargen Marlins and Cagayan de Oro Nuggets in the Southern Conference division.

MBA Champions

Code:
Season  Northern Conference       Southern Conference    Series

Isa sa mga disappointments ko, I was not able to watch the Slashers sa ila homecourt, sa La Salle. pero, nakalantaw ako several times sa Manila (Mail and More gym, home of the Metro Stars). damu kami naglantaw, pwerte ka sadya kay man hubog kami tanan.

Ayawan ka kantiyaw si Frechie Chang, the former La Salle stand out nga nagahampang sadto anay sa Metro Stars.
