WHO IS YOUR CHOICE?

I am a Pacman fan but its

Paeng........no doubt.... 8)

He is a Guiness book of world record holder.

He is the only bowling athlete who has received the prestigious International Olympic Committee President's Trophy which is the highest sports award that can be given to an athlete.

Paeng was the first international male bowling athlete to be enshrined in the International Bowling Hall of Fame in St. Louis, Missouri in 1993 and his seven foot image is displayed at the entrance of the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame .

In November 1999, the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs (FIQ) named Paeng as the "International Bowling Athlete of the Millennium."

nice info..

TOPIC:
Paeng or Pac - Who is the greatest Pinoy Athlete?

The ANSWER:
President Gloria M. Arroyo awarded Paeng, the Order of Lakandula with Class of Champion for Life and was declared Best Filipino athlete of all time. Both the Philippine Senate and House of Congress has declared Paeng the Greatest Philippine Athlete of All Time.

In its September 2003 issue, the Prestigious Bowlers JournalInternational named Paeng as the Greatest International Bowler of All Time.

At present Paeng has been designated by the USBC (United States Bowling Congress) as its International Bowling Ambassador for Bowling and promotes bowling around the world. He is available for clinics and appearances.

but in my opinion...no one.

its really hard to tell....there's no basis for this....lets just put it this way by analizing the word GREATNESS, FILIPINO, ATHLETE..

GREATNESS

pride,honor,respect,popularity,achivements....PAENG,MANNY & EFREN all have that.

so 1 point for paeng, manny and efren.

FILIPINO
i think paeng has a spanish descent(just correct me if im wrong)

1 point for manny and efren

ATHLETE

yes they're all athlete(skilled, disciplined, etc.)...but to become an ambassador of the sport you must be a good example and a role model....Paeng has the advantage.

1 poing for paeng

in my assessment.............................................ITS A DRAW! :) :D

they are all great in their respective sport......

just like ALI(Boxing), JORDAN(Basketball), WOODS(Golf), FISCHER(Chess), etc.

If Paeng is so great why didnt he compete professionally. And dont say because he plays for the love of the game. Because he knows he cant compete with professional bowlers! Pacman on the otherhand competed with the best available in his weight division in professional boxing!

Because during his time, WORLD CUP is the most popular event in Bowling..

Just like World Pool in Billiards..

Some will disagree on your statement, these are the only few of them:

Xavier School in the Philippines has it under their Athletics Department..

Some schools, such as UP, Asia Pacific College, STI, and Informatics, have even included bowling and ice skating in their physical education curriculum.

NCAA in the US also placed Bowling under athletics..

High school athletics in the US includes bowling..

Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, China, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Korea, Indonesia, Mexico, Puerto Rico and other Latin-American countries where they consider it as an international athletic sport.

For me, it's a draw for now. :toast:
Maybe PacMan will be the greatest after he retires. :D

How come he didn't compete with the best? Have you read his profile?

Find this sentence:

"Nepomuceno's two other world titles are from winning the World's Invitational Tournament which was participated by the World's best bowlers and was held in Sam's Town bowling center in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 8, 1984 which was a global event to showcase the sport in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics."

at this site:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paeng_Nepomuceno

and if you think that competition in World Cup is not tough, then read this:

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerhe ... e_id=99109

"What is the Bowling World Cup? In an interview, Paeng said: “The World Cup is not a competition where anyone can join from year to year. The competitor (in the men’s division and the women’s category) must first join a national elimination series, which takes about 100 games and three months to complete, before a winner is declared to represent a country.”

It is acknowledged as the most difficult individual competition in the world and is played by over 100 million people. The bowler closest to matching Paeng’s record is Norway’s Arne Stroem with two World Cup championships to his credit. Stroem is now retired."
