— BAP

5 cops who fled Negros operation in trouble
January 4, 2019

THREE officers of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 and two police non-commissioned officers are under investigation after they fled a one-time big-time operation against loose firearms in Negros Oriental last Dec. 27.

Their absence was discovered when their colleagues were serving search warrants against persons with unlicensed firearms.

According to PRO 7 Director Debold Sinas, cousins PO1s Melvin and Thomas Cañete of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 7 suddenly disappeared during a volley of gunfire.

Their disappearance alarmed Sinas, who ordered all police officers in Negros Oriental to look for the two, because he thought they might have been killed.

Later that night, the Cañetes showed up. They said they got lost in the confusion that followed the gunfire and ended up in a river in one of the mountain barangays of Guihulngan City.

But during the investigation, it was learned that the two cops from Dalaguete, Cebu didn’t go to the mountain with the rest of the battalion because they were afraid. They stayed in a restaurant in the city to await the return of their colleagues.

“When the gunfire started, the Cañetes got scared and fled. They went to the city and hid while the whole RMFB 7 looked for them until nighttime. I got so mad because I thought we had casualties only to find out during our technical support that when their cellular phones were ‘pinged,’ they were in the city the whole time,” Sinas said in Cebuano.

Sinas ordered the cousins to return to their barracks and to surrender their firearms.

He also ordered the filing of charges against them for cowardice and dishonesty.

Three police officers who returned to Cebu without his permission will also be investigated. Sinas, though, withheld their identities.

The two police inspectors were assigned at the RMFB 7, while the chief inspector was assigned at the Cebu City Police Office.

On Jan. 1, Sinas ordered the relief of the three police officers and the Cañete cousins. They were transferred to the Regional Personnel Holding Accounting Unit where they’d stay during the investigation. (From AYB of Superbalita Cebu)

£240,000 for the man who'll marry my 26-year-old virgin daughter: Millionaire farm-owner from Thailand offers huge sum for man to wed his English-speaking girl
Sara Malm For Mailonline 12 hrs ago

A Thai multi-millionaire farm owner is promising £240,000 - as well as his entire estate - to the man who marries his 26-year-old daughter.

Arnon Rodthong, 58, who owns a prosperous durian fruit farm in Chumphon province, southern Thailand, has taken the matter of his daughter Karnsita's future into his own hands.

In his bizarre 'offer', Mr Rodthong highlights that his daughter, who helps him run the family business, speaks fluent English and Chinese and is a virgin.

In some parts of Thailand, custom dictates that a man should pay a dowry for his future wife, but Mr Rodthong says he would waive this 'fee'.

Instead he'll give his future son-in-law ten million Thai baht (£240,000), as well as his sprawling durian farm, valued at several million pounds.

Mr Rodthong says there are no restrictions on what nationality the successful 'husband' should be - as long as they 'work hard and make Karnsita happy'.

He said: 'I want someone to take care of my business and make it last. I don't want a person with a bachelor's, or master's or philosopher's degree.

'I want a diligent man. I just want someone with a hard-working attitude. That's all.'

Despite having several other children of his own, including sons who would traditionally inherit the business, he adds: 'As soon as I have an in-law, I will give up all my assets to him.'

Mr Rodthong's durian farm processes some 50 tonnes of the fruit every day, and is the biggest in the region.

The wealthy Buddhist - who loves gold amulets - also owns property and land across the region.

Since making his controversial 'offer' on social media, Mr Rodthong and his daughter have had plenty of responses of various kinds.

Miss Rodthong said that she was overwhelmed with the attention from her father's post and confirmed that she is 'still single'.

But she hinted that her future boyfriend might have a struggle pocketing the money from her father, because she would 'like to use it herself for plastic surgery in Korea'.

She added: 'I first found out about my father's post when my friend's showed me. I was surprised but I can see the funny side to it, too.

'It is true that I am still single. If I have to get married with someone, I only want him to be a diligent and good person who loves his family.'
