City's cleanest toilet, gas stations cited

AS PART of the celebration of the National Tourism Week, the City Government of General Santos conducted an on-the-spot search for the cleanest restrooms and gasoline stations.

The City Economic Management and Cooperative Development Office (CEMCDO) sent a team of inspectors and made surprise visits in the city's stand-alone dining establishments and various petroleum stations during the duration of the NT Week on October 22-25.

From these, the top three winners of the two categories were then chosen.

According to CEMCDO Officer-in-Charge Coralyn Espinosa, "It's high time that we give incentives to these establishments so that they would be more inclined to make their facilities and services more tourist-friendly and at par with the country's best."

She said they plan to expand the search and include more categories next year.

In a simple awarding ceremony at the Gaisano Mall Atrium attended by Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr., the honor of having the "City's Cleanest Restroom" went to Orange Bistro-National Highway.

Restaurant supervisor Gary Aguinaldo received a plaque and P1,500 cash on behalf of the owners.

Runners-up were Mang Gorio-National Highway (plaque and P1,000 cash) and Mandarin Tea Garden-Osmena Street (plaque and P500 cash).

For the on-the-spot search for the city's Cleanest Gasoline Stations, the winners were: 1st -- Kare Petron-J. Catolico Avenue (winning a plaque and P1,500); 2nd -- Shell Lagao Travellers-National Highway (winning a plaque and P1,000), and 3rd -- Shell Gold Anchor-National Highway corner Mabuhay Road (winning a plaque and P500).

Someday in the distant future, scientists will score a breakthrough and replicate the amazingly powerful adhesive with which Gloria Arroyo has managed to cling to power.
