Mandaue City – AJ ‘Bazooka’ Banal (26W-1L-1D, 17 KO’s) of Ermita, Cebu City will defend his WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight title against Raul Hidalgo (15W-5L, 11 KO’s) of Mexico this March 24.

But the favourite question among the sportswriters was if Banal can fight for a world title this year.

“We are not treating this as a mere tune-up,” ALA Promotions CEO Michael Aldegeur said, “You can never underestimate a Mexican fighter. Yes, AJ is nearing a title fight and we’ll assess after this fight. We are also looking at the possibility of AJ fighting on the undercard of a Nonito Donaire fight in the U.S.”

My opinion?

Another of those tuktuk drivers again? We've had enough!

Hhmm.. I think ALA is trying to sell as many tickets as it could out of their roster of fighters before they get expose on World Title bout.
Atleast Boom2x is hot again..

They are exposed enough already. I think the Pinoy Pride shows should be made exclusive to their other boxers ranked below Melindo, Banal, Boom Boom, and Nietes.

Boom Boom? Hot again? Well actually, I think, his fight won't be hot, considering that his upcoming opponent is another of those "Fought but lost to's" again.

If they can't give fans a great show like the Gorres - Darchinyan Matchup years back, I think they should stop Pinoy Pride or I think they should do the above suggestion instead, so ALA will earn something. All they're doing right now is just really a waste of the time of the boxers. I mean, look at Banal. He's now ranked number 1, but no scheduled match versus Arce?

Come on.

Come on guys, give him a break. ALA still needs to give him another 25 tuktuk drivers to fight for him to be able to regain his confidence after what he suffered against Perez!

No! :dog:

I know that the career of a boxer is not easy, but tolerating what ALA is doing to its ranked boxers will not make them stronger, both in the physical and mental sense, at all.

Sad to say, being friends with a lot of these people, but I agree with you. I guess it would have been better if Gello-ani was still with them. At least a combination of a gambler who risks everything and people who are too careful, or even afraid, to match their fighters against better opposition.

Despite my ranting here, there is indeed good news.

Reigning WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight king AJ “Bazooka” Banal needs to win just one more fight before he earns his much-awaited world title challenge.
And standing in the way for the Cebuano’s title fight is Mexican Raul “El Bule” Hidalgo whom he will face in the main event of Pinoy Pride XII on March 24 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
If victorious against Hidalgo, Banal (26W-1L-1D 19KOs) will challenge for the WBO bantamweight crown of Jorge Arce within the year. Arce, however, is reportedly planning to move up in weight.

More here: http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/152955/wor ... xiii-fight

Hope they make it come true. I've long wanted to see them go international. It's been 2 years + since Gorres represented the Philippines and ALA, and no one has made waves like he did since. Hopefully Banal will. Nah, he will. I know.
