Yes, one step at a time. More power to Wesley So...

Glad to know that Wesley has made it to the Candidates Tournament by way of rating. In a certain sense, he is now on the road to the world championship. Thanks to Mod Joey for raising the ante by changing the thread title to Project World Chess Championship Challenger.

Nevertheless, let proper preparations for our boy begin. As the saying goes, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”

Wishing him the best, and certainly God will do the rest.

So vs. Dominguez

It seemed like the comeback story of Caruana would be the focus of attention of the day, but So had something to say about that. Trailing by 16 points with three games to go yesterday, So was simply a complete monster in the second half of the g/10 and all throughout today. Obtaining huge advantages on the clock and combining it with powerful and precise play, So turned the match around and even won the head-to-head with a full round to spare. Dominguez proved superiority in the rapid, but it was all So in the blitz.

On an interesting note So was so focused on banging the clock and putting that pressure on his opponent, that Carlsen requested that this match be played as far away from his board as possible, since it was distracting! So at some pointed even started bleeding from hitting the clock so hard, which forced the arbiters to pause the game and wipe the clock.

Champion Magnus Is so good I don't see anybody beatiing him in the next 4-5 years. Here are the chances of some of the top GMs:
Aronian- small chance
Nakamura- miniscule chance
Liren- no chance
Caruana- no chance
So- no chance
Kramnik- no chance
Karjakin- no chance

You may be right in your conjectures, but according to the 50-50-90 rule:

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there’s a 90 percent probability you’ll get it wrong.
