Hi guys,

Your sentiment in trying to spearhead a move to raise financial support for GM Wesley So is laudable but I think it will be taken cared of shortly. The way Wesley is performing in the current Chess World Cup, I think the sponsors will be coming in and Ex-Congressman Butch Pichay, who is well connected and at the helm of the Philippine Chess Federation, will make sure it will happen.

As a token, if we in Pacland community, would want to raise some funds and give it to Wesley, sure we can do that.

As far as the hard reality that every Filipino chess player faces, I knew it first hand, having played tournament chess in my teens and decided not to pursue that as a career. A few years later, after I had been gainfully employed, my heart broke when one late evening, passing by at the chess garden at the Luneta Park, I saw a drunk and disheveled Ruben Rodriguez, one of our finest chess players, seemingly asleep sitting down with his head resting on one of the concrete chess tables with no one seemed to care.

For every one Wesley So, there are countless other Filipino chess players who are struggling on a daily basis to keep their dreams alive.

I would not use the word " for every one Wesley So" , there is only one Wesley So, and there would never be another, for a 100 Years to come. What AsongKalye is appealing is for us to Help in advertising the needs of Wesley .Surely we can do that . Help Wesley because he is the real deal.

Thanks for your unwavering support to Pinoy talents Boss Shiva! It doesn't matter if
it's boxing, pool or chess, as long as they're showing great potential, you're behind them
no matter what! How about setting a PayPal account in behalf of Wesley's campaign for
greatness Boss? I'll start the ball rolling by chipping in something. It's not that big, but
I do hope I can chip in some more when I'm more financially stable in these trying times...

its about time boss shiva...

the last time Wesley participated in the tournament he had the same sentiments...

no coach and trying to make it on his own...

the boy still in high spirits and won over against such big names...

let us hope next time he goes he is fully equipped...

To boss Shiva, mods and all the Paclanders here, thank you for supporting this thread..It is just so unfortunate that this kid who brings glory in the name of the Philippines and the Filipinos does that get financial support from his own backyard in any way..And now that boss Shiva has replied, I will stop spamming Pacland in the name of Wesley..But this would not stop my quest to help Wesley further attain that goal..

unfortunately for chess, it lost a lot of its luster when its champion gary kasparov was soundly beaten by deep blue ii. that really proved that that claim that chess is a strategy game is more of a bull. it is a game of memory. strategy may still be there but it is the memory of the player that will carry him through the highest levels because no matter the claimed infinite variation, the number of combinations is still finite.

the philippines should instead aggressively promote "salpakan" or the games of the generals--a filipino-invented game that is truly a game of strategy. making the computer master the game will be next to impossible!

Maybe Wesley So can get help from florencio campomanes, Fide's former president. florencio is the most distinguished Pinoy in the world of Chess, more than torre.
