Even the near impossible feat of playing and winning every game in the European Team Championship for Russia later this month would be unlikely to gain Kramnik enough rating points for Candidates qualification, and it seems likely Kramnik will skip that event in any case, meaning we can already congratulate Fabiano Caruana and Wesley So on joined Sergey Karjakin, Levon Aronian and Ding Liren in the 2018 Candidates Tournament. Kramnik said he’ll probably take a long break now before Wijk aan Zee in January, though he did mention he might play in December.

Aronian and Caoili tie the knot

Image

World number two Levon Aronian and Arianne Caoili were married on September 30th, 2017, in Yerevan, Armenia. It was a Christian wedding ceremony held in one of the most ancient churches of the country. The most important guest at the wedding was Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan along with first lady Rita Sargsyan.

Bro Joeyj, I've just been to the 2700Chess website.
It said that for the Candidates Tournament 2018 on 10 - 28 Mar 2018, Berlin (Germany) it lists (1) Aronian, (2) Caruana, (3) So, (4) Ding Liren, (5) Karjakin and 3 more players as participants.
Is this accurate?
Has Wesley really qualified via rating?
Who would be the probable 3 other qualifiers?

Kramnik On Candidates' Wild Card: 'Most Likely My Last Chance'

https://www.chess.com/news/view/kramnik-gets-candidates-wild-card

::: ::: :::

Now that Kramnik has been selected as the Wild Card player for the Candidates, it just confirms that GM Wesley So took the 2nd slot for the candidates by rating. Caruana was 1st by rating.

2018 Candidates' Tournament | Participants so far

# Rank Fed Name Rating B-Year Method
1 2 Aronian, Levon : 2801 : 1982 : World Cup
2 4 Caruana, Fabiano* : 2794 : 1992 : Rating
3 5 Kramnik, Vladimir : 2794 : 1975 : Wild card
4 7 So, Wesley* : 2788 : 1993 : Rating
5 11 Ding, Liren : 2772 : 1992 : World Cup
6 12 Karjakin, Sergey : 2765 : 1990 : Loser match
7 ?
8 ?

*Pending official FIDE announcement, but at this point no other player can overtake them

There are still 2 slots left to complete the 8-slots cast for the candidates and that it will come by FIDE Grand Prix 2017 final results still to be contested in Palma de Mallorca, Spain come 16-25 November 2017. The frontrunners are Mamedyarov, Grischuk, Radjabov & MVL.

Bro Joey, tama ba yung rating ni Kramnik (rank 7)? Last I checked his rating is 2787.
Caruana, is 2799, (rank 3)
Karjakin is 2760, (rank 14)
Ding is 2774 (rank 11)

Wesley (rank 6) and Aronian (rank 2) are correct at 2788 and 2801 respectively.

Mamed (rank 4) at 2799 and Maxime (rank 5) at 2796 will have a chance sa FIDE Grand Prix together with Radjabov and Grischuk.

Wesley So boosts bid for world chess title after claiming spot in Candidates Tournament

From: The Web November 2, 2017, 06:45 pm

Image
Wesley So is set to battle seven other top woodpushers for the right to challenge world champion Magnus Carlsen.

FORMER Philippine national chess player Wesley So took a step closer in his bid for the World Championship, securing a place in the Candidates Tournament 2018.

Grandmaster So, who moved to the US to improve his chances of battling for the world crown, has earned a spot on the eight-player tournament set March 10 to 28 in Berlin that will determine the next challenger to world champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway.

Six of the eight places have been filled, with So and fellow American Fabio Caruana claiming spots by virtue of their average rating for the year. Caruana is making a return after placing second in the 2016 Candidates Tournament.

So, the second-highest rated American woodpusher, and US No. 1 Caruana, were confirmed for the event after organizers two days ago nominated former world champion Vladimir Kramnik as the tournament wild card.

Before the organizers' announcement, only a few points separated Kramnik, So and Caruana in the race for the two spots via rating average.

The Candidates Tournament is double round-robin event.

Sergey Karjakin, as loser of the championship duel with Carlsen in 2016, gets a spot in the Candidates Tournament 2018. The Russian GM topped the last Candidates Tournament.

Armenia’s Levon Aronian also returns to the tournament after winning the Chess World Cup 2017, while runner-up Ding Liren of China also advances.

The two vacant spots will be filled by the top finishers in the 2017 Fide Grand Prix.

This would be the NEXT GOAL of GM Wesley So (our New Project title for the thread) ... To win the Candidates Tournament & become "The Challenger for the World Chess Championship".

One Step at a time ... if he wins the candidates & become the challenger ... then our next project would be as "World Chess Champion" (for Standard/Classical Chess).

:D :D :)
