If you had noticed ... only three(3) GMs are Junior Players or U20 & all were born in 1990 !!! :D

Carlsen, Magnus g NOR 2810 2.9 1990 M
Vachier-Lagrave, Maxime g FRA 2730 -3.3 1990 M
Karjakin, Sergey g RUS 2720 4.8 1990 M

GM Wesley So was born in 1993 or Wesley is 3-yrs younger than them ... SO still have 3yrs lead time to make it @ 2700 & he is now @ 2665.3 Elo or only 34.7 Elo short !!! :D

Fine extensive research Bro Joey, I will definitely keep an eye on this.
How about PROJECT MANNY PACQUIAO TOP 10 ATG?
You'll have my support on that all the way. And of course, the force of Paclanders.

I already talked to Art Garcia a month ago, asking for his help in creating an art with all the ATGs in one big photo. I realized, that would be a lot of work because there are at least 80 of them. This thread gave me an idea to narrow it down to 10 - a mission not quite impossible. With your help, the fine craftmanship of Art and a little bit of myself to give justice to that claim - we sure could make a lot of noise. :D

Anyway, i'm hoping that Wesley cracks the unprecedented 2700 mark and Manny gets serious consideration within the Top 10. I'll get back to you later as soon as Art and I have finished our banner for that campaign thread.

See you around bro!

Next Tourney for Wesley So …

So seeks ‘three-peat’ in Battle of GMs tilt
By: Psports dated February 25, 2010
>>> http://www.pinoysport.com/wesley-so-see ... -gms-tilt/

Fresh from bagging the Aeroflot Open's top junior player plum, GM Wesley So seeks an unprecedented third straight title when the 2010 “Battle of GMs" chess championships come off the wraps on March 15-22 in Dapitan City.

So, who dominated the first two editions, will set out as the prohibitive favorite anew in this prestigious tournament featuring the country’s brightest woodpushers.

The 16-year-old Filipino champion, who was voted as the “Chess Player of the Year" by the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA), arrived only last Feb. 21 from Moscow, Russia after competing in the Aeroflot Open.

National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) president/chairman Prospero Pichay said So is expected to put up another strong performance in the Battle of GMs but the rest of the participants are tipped to give the highly-rated player a run for his money.

Out to foil So’s “three-peat" are GMs Rogelio Antonio, Jr., who finished runner-up last year, Asia’s first GM Eugene Torre and reigning Asian Zone 3.3 champion GM Darwin Laylo.

Like So, Antonio and Laylo also saw action in the recent World Chess Cup held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia last December.

Also vying for honors in the men’s division are GMs John Paul Gomez, Mark Paragua, Jayson Gonzales and Bong Villamayor, IMs Ronald Dableo, Richard Bitoon and Rolando Nolte, and FM Haridas Pascua.

In the women’s division, WFM Shercila Cua defends her crown against an equally-tough field which includes her younger sister WFM Sherily Cua as well as Cheradee Chardine Camacho and WIM Beverly Mendoza.

The other participants in the female division are WFMs Catherine Perena and Cherry Ann Mejia, WNMs Daisy Rivera, Christy Lamiel Bernales, Jedara Docena, Jan Jodilyn Fronda, Loreshyl Quizon and Akiko Charmaine Suede.

A guaranteed cash prize of P800,000 will be at stake in the tournament with the champion in the men’s division bringing home the top prize of P200,000 and the winner in the women’s category pocketing P60,000.

::: :( :::

But will this Tourney help Wesley So … attain his quest … a 2700+ Elo rating ??? Considering that other participants (his countrymen) are all below 2600 Elo ?! A Top Prize of P200,000 maybe elusive taking into consideration the financial gain to support his quest ?!

But is it worth the RISK ???

...

Making use of the argument posted by the blogger @ http://chesswindows.blogspot.com/

“GM So's next tournament will be the Battle of GMs (BOGM) where he is seeded No.1. Being the only 2600-rated player in the country and whose rating margin to the next highest rated player is around 100 Elo points, he is not poised to boost his Elo standing in this tournament. Inevitable draws - I expect at least three - will surely make a stingy dent to his 2700 campaign. And heaven forbid, what about an accidental loss (with much emphasis on the term 'accidental').

Of course, GM Wesley has that moral and patriotic obligations to play in the Battle of GMs. And we should salute this young lad for keeping his commitment.

If he could avoid bloodless draws in the BOGM, much better. If his opponents/friends respect GM Wesley enough, it would be best for them to avoid the needless truce with Wesley. Oh please, don't drag the country's source of hope and inspiration down.”

...

I believe that from hereon … The National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) specially its president/chairman Prospero Pichay … should CONSIDER ALL RISK before putting Wesley So into battle! It’s only @ the International Level of competition consisting of Super & Hyper GMs where Wesley So could have the opportunity to gain more Elo points in his quest/campaign for the 2700+ ELO!

GM Wesley So puts RP in chess world map

Image

GM Wesley So left the 2009 World Chess Cup like a true champion.

After losing to GM Vladimir Malakhov in the tiebreaker of Round 4, Wesley will bring back home a feat that belongs only to the great - that is, putting the Philippines in the global chess map once again.

It should be remembered that GM Eugene Torre first etched RP's mark in world chess in 1983 by barging into the quarterfinals against GM Zoltan Ribli in Spain.

Reaching round-of-16 in WCC is tantamount to a superhuman feat for a 16-year old lad who trains and studies chess all by himself. No coach, no trainer, no second. That's pure human talent, a real gift not every human being is blessed to receive.

Reaching Round 4 is truly amazing, especially after beating two strong opponents one of whom was formerly No.3 in the world and the other the defending champion of WCC.

What makes the feat sweeter is to realize that Wesley is the youngest Asian player who reached Round 4 in the history of WCC (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Aside from the rich experience, Wesley will bring home additional 15.8 Elo points and US$25,000 (P1.15 million using 1:46 exchange rate). Wesley's present live rating stands at 2655, 45 Elo points short of 2700. No doubt, Wesley will soon reach the 2700 mark.

For sure, Wesley will return to WCC in the future much stronger. Go young man, conquer the world!

Don't count out Wesley So. It is way too early in this tournament. He is the real deal. I expect this talented young man to go far in his career. His game just needs some small tweaking. (Spice Cup 2009)
