Lahat din ng mga talo ni Wes dahil off-night niya.

Wow, grabe yung game nila Wesley. Ang daming niyang sinacrifice. And I feel that he should have won or at least drawn. Masakit yung loss na eto. But anyway, come fight another day, Wesley. We are behind you all the way! Mabuhay ka!

It was a nerve-racking game for both Wesley and Caruana. It was a very exciting game. Even though Wesley lost, I think he did very well. This game will make Wesley improve his game even more.

I feel Wesley may have had the slight upperhand as he had better time on his side and a better attacking stance going in to the endgame, he just wasn't able to capitalize. He unnecessarily blitzed his last 4 or 5 moves when he had a slight time advantage over Fabi, missing the perpetually-checking Rd2 line completely while Fabio found the right moves with barely 2 mins. left on his regulation clock. The pressure of winning the tourney had gotten into our boy, as he was on target to win it should he win his last game against Caruana, or have a 5-way tie at the top should he draw it.

Anyway, better luck next time. It was close. But the better player won this time in a taut battle of nerves.

Congrats and well wishes to Wes, and to Don Fabio for winning the toughest tournament of the year thus far!

Leuven GCT, Day 1: So supreme

“He’s played supremely well” was Nigel Short’s verdict as Wesley So beat Fabiano Caruana and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov to take the lead after Day 1 of the Your Next Move Grand Chess Tour in Leuven.

GTC: So leads in Leuven

6/13/2018 – Wesley So got off to a good start in the rapid tournament in Leuven, with 5 / 6 (rapid games use double scoring). So maintained his lead on day two, keeping the same rhythm. He won in rounds 4 and 5, in round 6 he played a draw, bringing his point tally to 10 / 12. In second place is Levon Aronian with 8 / 12.

Wesley wins the Rapid in Leuven, Belgium scoring 14/18 ( 5 wins & 4 draws) and leads by 3pts going into the 18-rounds Blitz !

Blitz counts only 1 - 0.5 - 0 (Win-draw-loss) while Rapid counts 2 - 1 - 0 (Win-draw-loss)!

Wesley is quickly becoming stronger in Rapid and Blitz chess. He won the recent Norway Blitz tournament and now topped the Leuven Rapid Chess event. I can't wait to see how he performs in the blitz event.

Wesley So's total domination in the rapid carried him through to win the tournament.
