Congratulations Wesley! You have unofficially made this thread re-titled, "GM Wesley So: Project World Champion"
I just hope he won't give in to the wooing of the Americans. Just as how they stole our supposedly first Olympic gold medal in diving by granting our female diver American citizenship via marrying her with her American coach.

who cares? all that matters is knowing Wesley's personal success. besides, if the Philippines want their Olympic gold, the government should earn it by providing support to our players. not like nakikisakay lang sa personal success porke't may lahing pinoy, pero ang tumulong para makamit ang tagumpay ay ibang bansa. Susan deserves a medal for believing in Wesley. otherwise, he might have turned into obscurity back in the Philippines for lack of support. whatever flag he would show his allegiance, I'm more than happy for his success as a chess prodigy from the Philippines. not because the Philippine government has anything to do with his success.

w/ a big win in this tournament, he will gain private sponsors from the Philippines private companies. like what the puyats did to our bowlers & billiard players. Like Jim Carrey said of Shia Lebouf i would say "Wesley So, so young, so wise".

1. On March 2013 FIDE rating list publication, officially, GM Wesley So (born 9 Oct 1993) from the Philippines breached the 2700 mark. His March 2013 FIDE rating of 2701 was derived from his live rating of 2701.3 that he achieved 2 days earlier at the conclusion of Reykjavik Open 2013 on 27 February 2013 where he tied for first place, a 3-way tie, with GMs Pavel Eljanov (Ukraine) and Bassem Amin (Egypt). With this feat, Wesley So, officially became the 10th youngest to breached the 2700 mark (Hyper-GM) at age 19yrs-4mos-20days

ref: http://chessaccount.wordpress.com/chess-records/wesley-so-officially-breach-the-2700-mark/

2. From thereon, GM Wesley So, FIDE rating (ELO) had progressed slowly but surely ...

2705: May 2013: [U.S.A. College Chess Final Four (April 6-7, 2013) & Bill Wright Saint Louis Open
(12-14 April 2013)]

2708: July 2013: [6th Calgary International Chess Classic(May 14 – 20, 2013), 22nd Chicago Open
(May 23-27, 2013) & National Open Championship (Las Vegas Int’l Chess Festival:June 6 – 9, 2013)]

2710: Aug 2013: [27th Summer Universiade 2013(9-15 July 2013)]

2706: Oct 2013: [Chess World Cup 2013(11-15 Aug 2013)]

2719: Nov 2013: [17th UniveTournament 2013 (Crown Group: 20-26 October 2013)]

GM Wesley So had ended CY-2013 scoring a +9.7 FIDE rating points @ 2013 PAN-AM Inter-Collegiate Team Chess Championship (27-30 Dec 2013) bringing his LIVE rating to 2728.7.

GM Wesley So had won(1st Place) 5 individual Tournaments for CY 2013:

1). Reykjavik Open 2013 (19-27 February 2013
2). 6th Calgary International Chess Classic(14 – 20 May 2013)
3). National Open Championship (Las Vegas Int’l Chess Festival: 6 – 9 June 2013)
4). 27th Summer Universiade 2013(9-15 July 2013)
5). 17th UniveTournament 2013 (Crown Group: 20-26 October 2013)

3. GM Wesley So had started CY-2014 like a 'CHARIOT of FIRE' ... gaining a +11.6 FIDE rating points after 5-Rounds @ Tata Steel Chess 2014 (Masters Group) bringing his LIVE RATING to 2740.3.

It is just -9.7points off our new Target ... 2750 !!!

ref: http://chessaccount.wordpress.com/live-ratings-phi/wesley-so-live-ratings/

Hence our new title ... * * * PROJECT 2750 +++: GM Wesley So PHI * * *

Note: Our New Project 2750+++ is in support to Wesley So's Goal in 2014 (posted in his twitter account) ...

Goal in 2014: Reach 2750! I believe I can reach it, with God's help.

After 2750+++ ... our next would be PROJECT 2800+++ :)

so far so good... tata steel tournament is an acid test for wesley to be on that level...

i'm not expecting wesley on top on this tournament as the group is so strong and formidable.

draw is already a win for me...

congrats wesley!

Just like what coach Susan said, make a short term goal, achieve it in the most fastest time, and set another one.
Susan and Wesley agreed that for 2014, they're aiming for that magical number of 2750, who knew that it's just
January and they're already at 2740.3! It feels like a lifetime ago when Wesley was stuck at the 2650 to 2670 range,
no back-up, no coach and was just relying on his chess instincts and computer to tide him by. Since he got Webster
University's backing and scholarship with the help of his present mentor, he made great strides and moving at an
incredible pace, it's just a matter of time before he barges in to the top 10, not in my wildest dream he will get this
far in so short a time.

We will change the thread title if need be, and per bro Joey's request, but let's just cheer for Wesley to achieve his
short-term goal for now!
