"Caruana actually still has to play a playoff tomorrow anyway, since he ended the GCT regular season in a dead-heat tie. So and him ended with 26 points and equal fourth for the final spot to London, which requires a whole new playoff! You can see in the above video that Aronian didn't know Caruana's plight when deciding on which Sinquefield tiebreak they prefer. Aronian on Caruana's unlikely double tie: "That's insane!"

my bad! i've added 4 points to wesley thus giving him 27 points. i should have added 3 points only for 26 points total. i hope they just accomodate the 2 (wesley and so) to the GCT finals in london to make it more exciting since carlsen will not be participating (perhaps he will as wild card entry).

here's hoping for a wesley victory against caruana in their playoff.

Bad news! Wesley lost the playoff...drew the first game and lost and second game. Caruana is in the finals of GCT to be held in London. Apparently, Wesley is playing in Sinquefield without a coach.

Better luck next time, Wesley.

Wesley should start investing in having a second, or a coach. Caruana have a second, they do the dirty work of research against your opponents, and two energies are better than one. Anand have four seconds. The costs will be returned by earning more prize money.

ang pagkakaalam ko ay may kinuha na siya na coach prior to start ng GCT tour. hindi ko lang alam kung ano na nangyari...baka hindi na naman nya nakasundo like his first coach or hindi kasama sa agreement yung pagsama sa kaniya sa mga tournament? we don't know and we can speculate only

I noticed that Wesley is now playing on board 2, and Nakamura on board 3. It’s an exchange of places from the previous Olympiad.

Anyway, it was a well-played game by Wesley (handling White against the Dutch Erwin L’Ami) in Round 3, in which he converted his advantage into a win in an instructive manner.

From a Ruy Lopez opening the position (following Black’s rarely played line in 5...g6) gradually transformed into one of a King’s Indian set-up or structure (minus the light-squared bishops) which, nevertheless, Wesley has had great familiarity with. Employing his trademark sacrificial pawn push to c5 (past victims of which included Ding Liren and Garry Kasparov), Wesley was able to quickly gain some space and eventually dictate the tempo in the middle-game stage. He further wreaked havoc on Black’s uncastled King position with a follow-up sacrificial pawn push to d6, thus forcing Black with virtually no other viable option except to exchange Queens in the subsequent moves.

The ensuing endgame was indeed a fine display of “mature” technique on Wesley’s part.
