Steve Molitor Turns Down Bernabe Concepcion

REIGNING NABF super bantamweight champion Bernabe “Kamaong Llave” Concepcion will have to wait a little longer before landing a title shot. Concepcion received word from United States IBF super bantamweight king Steve Molitor refused to face him on the undercard to the Manny Pacquiao-David Diaz pay-per-view on June 28 at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Instead, the 20-year old native of Catanduanes will probably put his title on the line for the third time. Matchmaker Bruce Trampler of Concepcion’s Las Vegas-based promotional company, Top Rank, is looking for his challenger.

“We’ll make another (NABF) title defense. Molitor refuse to fight Abe,” said Aljoe Jaro, handler and trainer of Concepcion in Binangonan, Rizal.

Concepcion came back home in the Philippines last week after defending his title against American Torrence Daniels with impressive second round knockout at Plaza de Toros Juriquilla in Queretaro, Queretaro, Mexico on April 26.

Concepcion has a record of 25-1-1 with 14 knockouts. He is ranked fourth under WBC super bantamweight king Israel “Magnifico” Vazquez (43-4, 31 KOs) of Mexico but unranked under Molitor (27-0,10 KOs).

Molitor is 28-year old southpaw and stands three-inches taller than Concepcion at 5-foot-7. He is considered to be the weakest among the world champions in 122-pound class.

i think molitor & his handlers don't want to risk it. molitor has not fought anybody with a big name yet. to lose his title without gaining much would be foolish.

Molitor will miss the exposure under a big fight card (PAC-Diaz)... Maybe he's thinking that it's a high risk exposure...

Dude, Gatti is from New Jersey and Lennox Lewis is British. Are you trying to say these guys are Canadian? Oops, I just looked this up and Gatti was born in Italy but grew up in Canada. And Lewis was born in England but his nationality is Canadian. So I guess you are right!

Good for Abe. He will get schooled to death by Steve if they ever get it on at this moment.

Steve Molitor is a joke champ. He is all of the above:

1. No Power
2. No Speed
3. No footwork

Molitor hasn't fought anybody outside his own backyard. He faced all bums in his career. Has only 10 KOs in 27 fights. Thats a poor 37% KO record for a young "champion". If he faces a real fighter like Ponce de Leon, Molitor will run like a coward champ. He idolizes Floyd Maywather a lot. But his idol has speed, Molitor only has hype.

Don't get me wrong, I live in Canada but I am fair enough to assess his real worth in the Sport. Molitor would be eaten alive by anyone in Las Vegas if he is man enough to go out of his own backyard. In The US of A, Molitor will wake up realizing, he does not have fan base to cheer him up like he enjoys back home.
