Gerry Penalosa was a super flyweight and move up to fight Juan Ma...
But Gerry never kissed the canvas even once...

Abe is a natural featherweight while Juan Ma was the one moving in weight...
But how come Abe easily stagers everytime he was hit by any punches that Juanma throws...

Clearly, Abe is ill-prepared in this fight...!!!

abe staggered on every punch juanma landed coz he had no defense, no head movement, zero footwork, and he had no jab at all.

abe was basically walking into juanma's straights and hooks.

i think abe was in the best shape of his life, he had the power and the reflexes but he was ILL EQUIPPED as far as boxing skills is concerned.

it's back to the drawing board.

Gerry either slipped the punches, rolled with them, or partially deflected the blows with his gloves. In that fight, Juanma got flustered
so he switched his attack to Penalosa's body before going headhunting again.
Abe was wide open and MET the punches head on so he got tagged flush every time.

This shows that a fighter has a lot to do in winning than the coach. Buboy, with all he knows about Pac didn't help at all.

There is a reason why Freddie Roach is no longer Concepcions coach. I'm sure Freddie saw that Concepcion didn't have "it".

I blame it on Abe, no lateral movements, weak defense, always relies on his power.... and also Abe has a low IQ when it comes to technique's and style.

Haha! sad and funny at the same time but unfortunately... very true.

Some people might not agree with me on this but here goes.......

Abe didn't use the ring at all.....Like what most paclanders said he was not totally prepared for the fight.... all he need was good lateral movement and defense. But it was a winnable fight, I was not really totally impressed of Juan ma. He has a solid stance, He is just a bomber but very accurate, with fast hands. Abe could have won that one if he learned to be a bit more patient..... there was a big difference in Juan ma's game when he got floored late in the 1st round. He just waited for Abe to make his silly mistake again.... A featherweight manny could easily beat juan ma...... oh well hope he wins his next match or else that's it for abe.

That's it! but don't underestimate the guys IQ, all of us have our own defects and weaknesses, in short, he has to learn a lot of things yet, I really don't understand when they said he has this chance of defeating Lopez, are this people joking, Abe is so slow in everything, his asset is only the big punch, and that's dangerous, that said punch is totally ineffective against a skilled boxer and could end up in tragedy like what happened to Gorrez. :?

Well..Abe was lost..he was TKO'd..Certainly, JMLopez is just an excellent warrior.

But in what manner may improve his fighting style?

My observations is that;

1) He always got hit when he's backing out. His head is widely open, too susceptible
for a punch.
2) No head movements.
3) Weak defense.

Better luck next time and i'm wishing that his fighting capabilities will develop more.

At least, Abe scored a KD and lasted more than one round, unlike Ponce De Leon ;)

Because Gerry was more on defense that's the BIG reason why he never knock down by JuanMa. It's very difficult to knockdown a boxer that concentrates only on defense like what happened to MP vs. Clottey. 8)
