"You're still my idol," Pacquiao told him.

"No, you're my idol," De La Hoya said.

For me, Pac's victory is bittersweet.

Being a Filipino and a Pacquiao fan through and through, I am yet to come down from cloud 9 over Pac's victory. This is one moment when I am really proud to be Pinoy.

But then, I am also an Oscar Dela Hoya fan. I have watched many of Oscar's fights early in his career. He was one gifted fighter, a special one. I admired his fighting skills, as well as the gentle demeanor that he exhibited outside the ring.

Thus, It was a sorry sight to see him get pulverized by Manny. Oscar looked like a defenseless little boy. After almost 2 decades of lording it over in 10 weight classes, it was a pity to see him get brutally punished by Manny.

Nevertheless, if it is any consolation, both fighters showed class during and after the fight. Manny obviously was holding back his punches at some point. He seemed not willing to punish Oscar more than necessary. Case in point is towards the end of round 8 when Manny stopped with around 5 seconds left probably to give Oscar a breathing space because by then it was clear that there was nothing Oscar could have done to hurt Manny back. And, on Oscar's part, he distinguished himself from former Pacman's foes by being gracious in defeat. Clearly, the "it's personal" statement of Dela Hoya leading to the fight was pure and simple hype.

Congrats Manny! And thank you for this early Christmas gift.

I am not impressed.

Look at round 7. Dela Hoya has brains if he wants to win, why the hell did he stayed in that corner to be beaten up? He's smart and I think if Dela Hoya wanted to win he should have tried getting out of that corner.

I think Oscar gave the fight to Manny. He sacrificingly absorbed the pain (he got the money anyways).

If he can't pull the trigger, he could have shown his determination.

BUT...

NOT PUNCHING?

NOT EVADING?

I don't believe Oscar was beaten.

HE LET MANNY BEAT HIM.

It was all business.

hmmmm...... didn't you consider that Oskee is all but out of gas from all those punches he had thrown and received from Manny? if you would had noticed, Oskee became more tentative to throw punches when Manny started to throw a lot at him. so basically, the instinct of a fighter in that situation is to cover up. otherwise he would just become a punching bag like what happened to DD. if you were watching the HBO telecast, you would hear what the commentators saying that Oskee was confused and doesn't know what to do whether to throw a punch or not.

aha~! a doubter? oh come on.... you should face the reality IMO, if you read some previous articles about Dela Hoya's capabilities to KO the PACMAN and his hard training videos on HBO 24/7 you should accept the fact that Dela Hoya's prime has been past... He can't pull the trigger anymore OK? Dela HOya did his best BUT his best are NOT ENOUGH to beat that PACMN! And even Edwin Valero speaks about Dela Hoya status... Tsk tsk tsk..... WAKE UP!!!
read this maybe this one can help: http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Benz/Benz_1206a08.htm
