Gerry is a defense specialist, The more punches Mares will throw means more opening for Gerry. Just one mistake by Mares then bang end of story. 8)

Absolutely you right, Gerry's lone problem is his height when fighting the taller one specially if his tall opponents is throwing a lot of jabs, this was proven when he lost twice to In Joo Cho,twice to Masamori Tokuyama both are standing 5' 7 and almost to Jhonny Gonazales also a 5'7". But this time against Mares, I am confident that he will just outbox him because Abner is stll inexperience and besides he is just a 5' 5" in height just an inch taller than him. :) :) :) :)

Gerry is like a wine, he gets better when aged.

I hope that his fight against Mares will be finalized soon. I really like to watch gerry, i hope some of our young boxer can imitate penalosa's style particularly Rey Bautista, Bautista needs the defense style of penalosa's head and body movement.

If this fight would indeed materialize, I hope this would not be the last fight of Gerry. :boxing:

mares being young and too aggressive would prove to be his own downfall against gerry penalosa, the most skilled boxer to come out of the philippines (even freddie roach likes watching him box and he's amazed of his skills). people said mares' got power...well ponce de leon had power in abundance. gerry didn't even blink when ponce landed his power shots. this guy's chin is made of titanium steel.pair that with amazing technical skills and power and mares will have his work cut out for him.i reckon he's not ready for somebody like gerry penalosa.

my 2 cents

Gery wasn't hit clearly by Ponce's punches due to His exelent defensive skills ,thats why Gery lasted the 12 rounds ,but be sure if He got hit clearly by Ponce's shuts He ,or any body in theyer weight class will go down.

It's not a matter of how you take a punch but how you play the game.

in order to beat jerry mares has to be a busy puncher and quick on his feet cos i'm sure mares cannot win via KO as johnny gonzales is a stronger puncher than mares and he couldn't take jerry out. but jerry has to let his hands go. it will be hard to look good against mares--he is like a little juan manuel marquez.

gabi have only 2 weeks preparation against mares in their previous match..

gabi attacked mares immediately and looking for a knockout bcoz he knows he wont last 12 rounds with mares bcoz of the lack of preparation.

its gonna be another "Gerry Penalosa Show" in Vegas

also, gabi i didn't see gabi throw a good straight left on mares's face.
