About Intel
Intel (Integrated Electronics Corporation) is the world's largest CPU manufacturer. It was founded in 1968 and is based in Santa Clara, California (US). Intel is the creator of the x86 CPU architecture which is now used in the majority of PCs (and since 2006 Macs as well). Intel's domination in the x86 CPU market led to charges of antitrust violations in US, EU, Japan and South Korea over the years.

About AMD
AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) was founded in 1969 and is based in Sunnyvale, California (US). It is the second largest supplier of x86 architecture CPUs and, after a merger with ATI in 2006, the third largest manufacturer of GPUs (after Intel and nVidia). It is considered the underdog of the CPU market due to revenue and market share several times smaller than Intel's (19% in 2009 Q4 vs Intel's 80%).

I am trying to build another rig.....
I always went for Intel and never had an AMD.

Which is really better?

This would depend on your requirement. If you're a guy who is looking to build a PC to top all those benchmarks, and have a fairly huge budget, go for Intel. If you're looking for something that's over the mid-range, AMD processors would give you the better price performance ratio. Intel processors would have the best processor on the $900+ price range, and AMD doesn't have that, but the top AMD processor at $199 would have the same performance as a slightly more expensive Intel counterpart.

With regards to the price, a top of the line Intel motherboard would usually be more expensive than a top of the line AMD motherboard from the same manufacturer. So you should not just look at the CPU price when doing the comparison.

Overall I would recommend AMD especially if there are budget constraints, then use the money you saved to buy a 120GB SSD for your boot disk rather than a standard HDD. The SSD will you give you a lot more performance for your system.

I'm loving my SSD.....noise-les, fast and less energy consumption.

After having built several desktops and gaming rigs for years (for myself and for others), I have always used Intel CPUs. Like you, I was tempted on several occasions to experiment with AMD because I'm sure they are also good CPUs. However, I've never had any problems with Intels. So, I figured, why fix it when it ain't broke?

Athlon vs Pentium 4? Athlon wins!

But currently, Intel processors beat AMD by a mile.

of course i am going for intel.....because i was involved in building and constructing their facilities in asia and i know if you have a very good foundation of delivering a defect free state-of-the-art cleanroom and support installations then the product assembly will have an excellent outcome :)

On the CPU side, Intel ...

On Graphics side of the CPU, definitely AMD ..

even the latest Intel Ivy Bridge cannot catch up with AMD's Trinity graphics.
Mind you the CPU side of Trinity is not that bad A8 is like the Intel i5 maybe
a little over because its a true quadcore. But I like the A10 even better.

Another thing I like about the latest Trinity processors, it last longer than
Intel's. Battery life is way much better with AMD's Trinity and that Piledriver
technology is way cool.

This is why gamers prefer the latest AMD processors. Video and photo editors
too like myself. There is a good benchmark posted by .. hmm, not sure if it
was Tom's hardware, check it out.

+1
This is the best explanation.
AMD, through the years, improved significantly, on the other hand, Intel is reliable as ever.

My advice to you sir, where are you going to use your RIG? is this for documents, office, designing or it is for gaming purposes? or you wanna go for this two specification?

If you have money I'll suggest that you go for Intel. But if you dont have enough budget go for AMD..

For me this is the specification for Intel Setup.

Intel Core i7 3770k Ivy Bridge Processor
Motherboard such as Asus, Asrock, MSI, Gigabyte, Intel that compatible with 1155 Socket.
Casing, Aerocool Strike X Advance White Edition
Ram Gskill Ares 16GB 8gbx2 DDR3 1600 CL10 (F3-1600C10D-16GAO)
Hdd Internal WD Caviar Green 1TB WD10EARX Sata3
Vga MSI Geforce GTX 680 2gb gddr5 256bit
Psu Aerocool Strike-X 800w Power Supply 80Plus Silver

For AMD setup
AMD Bulldozer FX 8150 BE 3.6ghz 8-Core Processor (Black Edition)
Motherboard such as Asus, Asrock, MSI, Gigabyte, Intel that compatible with AM3+ Socket.
Casing, Aerocool Strike X Advance White Edition
Ram Gskill Ares 16GB 8gbx2 DDR3 1600 CL10 (F3-1600C10D-16GAO)
Hdd Internal WD Caviar Green 1TB WD10EARX Sata3
Vga MSI Geforce GTX 680 2gb gddr5 256bit
Psu Aerocool Strike-X 800w Power Supply 80Plus Silver

Choose of the two setup..

Good luck sir...BTW im a Intel Fanatic..
