The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban) on Thursday denied that Filipino music icon Freddie Aguilar is part of their senatorial lineup.
"Freddie Aguilar is not a candidate for senator nor any other elective position of the PDP-Laban. We did not issue any Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA) from the party," said Ron Monsayac, head of PDP-Laban's public information, in a text message to GMA News' Sandra Aguinaldo.
"Although he's free to continue his plans to run for Senator, he is not part of the PDP-Laban slate," Monsayac added.
Earlier, Aguilar filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Manila, saying that he will run under the PDP-Laban.
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said the issue would still be discussed by the poll body's officials.
"I think 'yung policy sa CONA, nakacontain na 'yan sa reso natin, we'll give you copies. This will come up for decision by higher authorities kasi merong may claim, may counter-claim, kailangan pagbanggain," Jimenez said. — Anna Felicia Bajo/MDM, GMA News
