Noooo, GM Wes has just been bumped out by Aronian on the top 10 of live ratings.

wala akong balita if Wes has continued working with coach/es......I hope he has decided again to get coaches, parang malaki ang improvements niya pag may coach

Napansin ko lang lumagpas sya sa margin of top 10 after a long time dun. Legend na sya sa chess world, kaya nya kahit walang coach or second, pero hope he can develop further. Sa tingin ko sya or maybe GM Mamedyarov can match King Carlsen in the future. Just always stay condition, healthwise, spiritwise.

in wesley's post @ chessgames, he will be playing instead at Gibraltar this January, though he appreciated
Tata but he accepted Gibraltar long standing invite this time for a change of scenery.

In Gibraltar he is seeded #3 next to MVL and Aronian. Also playing there will be Yu Yanggi, Naka, Navara, Vitiugov, Le, Ivanchuk, Artemiev and many other Super GMs.

What?
Politics did it kaya lumipat si Wes..
Walang mararating pag Pinas ang dala?
Torre did it long before Wes was born...
Fisher trained with Torre..

You're too assuming to conclude na walang mararating if Pinas ang dalang flag..tsk tsk

also to add to brad Jabz points, sa chess yung coaches ng mga active competitors do not necessarily have to be "better"

.....else paano na gaya ni Magnus? he's the WC, the reigning best in the world, who can be better than him  aside from maybe Fabiano (on his good, no excellent day, maybe) so hindi na siya kukuha ng coaches ganun?

......coaches help the "player" prepare specific openings against a particular opponent, or maybe help improve a seeming "weakness" in the player's game, or maybe just assist in a particular tournament with prepared opening variations for white or black, etc......

Thanks for Roach. Hindi naman makakakuha ng magagaling na chess leaders from US na mag aassist kay Wes kung Philippines flag ang dala. Dahil mababa ang tingin nila sa Asians. Pulitika of course ang number one reason. I was playing with Celestino Cain a former NM di ako makanalo sa kanya sobrang galing. However nai share nya sa akin ang problema. Mapulitika rin kahit ang foreign chess competitions.
