TNT stays mum on talks of tapping Dondon Hontiveros for playoff run in Governors Cup

From: Gerry Ramos
September 21, 2017, 07:57 pm

TNT Katropa remained mum about talks that veteran gunner Dondon Hontiveros is likely to join the ballclub heading to the playoffs of the PBA Governors Cup.

No one among TnT management and officials have answered queries by SPIN.ph about the buzz that spread out a day after Hontiveros, 40, played his final game for Alaska.

The 'Cebuano Hotshot' was no longer renewed by the Aces after five seasons playing for the franchise.

Hontiveros and fellow veteran Tony dela Cruz suited up for Alaska one last time Wednesday in a 112-82 loss to Rain or Shine at the Ynares Center in Pasig. While dela Cruz vocally said he’s retiring for good, Hontiveros has not closed the door on possibly playing one last time for other teams.

A source close to the three-time champion and 13-time All-Star said Hontiveros has been put by Alaska in the unrestricted free agent list so that teams still interested to get his services can pick him up easily, including TnT, come the playoffs.

Dondon Hontiveros unaware of talks with TNT, but admits initial chat for possible Alab Pilipinas stint

From: Jonas Panerio September 22, 2017, 01:33 pm

CEBU CITY – Dondon Hontiveros’ playing years may be far from over as he admitted to getting feelers to join the Asean Basketball League’s Alab Pilipinas.

Speaking from the lifestyle and basketball boutique, Common Ground, here in the Queen City of the South, the 40-year old swingman said he has had initial talks with Alab Pilipinas team manager Jimmy Alapag regarding a possible stint.

“Jimmy has talked to me about it but there’s nothing definite. Right now, I’m just enjoying a little time off from basketball,” said the veteran gunner who was accompanied by his father and his wife.

Hontiveros also came from the basketball practice of his former school, the University of Cebu, where he gave an inspirational talk to the Webmasters. Hontiveros, who has held a host of camps all over the country, said that he wouldn’t rule out any possible coaching opportunities should they arrive.

“Anytime I can give back to the game and help out players with the experiences I’ve had through the years, I’ll do it,” said Hontiveros.

Talks are ripe regarding TNT Katropa’s interest in tapping Hontiveros for the upcoming playoff run. But Hontiveros clarified that he has not heard anything about it from his agent.

“Wala pa eh. But I’m not sure if talks are ongoing with my agent since the deadline for picking up players for the playoffs is on September 25,” he said.

Abueva takes on former team, NLEX eyes bounce-back win

Quote:
All eyes will be on Phoenix wingman Calvin Abueva as he faces his former team Alaska in an early collision between two unbeaten squads in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 6-foot-2 Abueva has been on a tear in his first two games for the Fuel Masters, averaging 12.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

Phoenix opened the season-ending conference with a 113-107 win over Columbian, before throwing its full weight in a 132-91 massacre of NorthPort last Sunday.
